I wasn’t at my best one year ago. In fact, I was really depressed. Things went really wrong.

As a result of that, I decided that I had to take a break from the studies. Have some time alone to figure out things. Believe me, it was hard enough to admit for myself that I needed a break – even harder for me to do something about it. I was thinking about calling school for many months – but my pride always told me to not. I’ve never had a break from the studies before, the thought of it really scared me. A voice within me told me that I had to continue, no matter what. Instead of taking the break, I continued with my studies and got… well, bad grades. The motivation was gone, I basically stopped to care about what I was doing with my life. I stopped to do things, all I did was to sit in front of TV and play video games and sleep the days away. It’s scary how a top student can change in such a short time… I had a lot of dark thoughts and at one point I realized that I couldn’t continue like this.

I called school and surprisingly they were very understanding about my situation. They calmed me down and told me that it’s pretty common for students to take breaks like this. I actually think that I started to feel better the second I sent the confirmation papers – I could finally start to focus on myself, without worrying about other things.

I soon realized that I wanted to change the whole life situation I was in. I wasn’t happy in the situation that I was in at all. I’d already dealt with the school issue – the next step would be to move somewhere else. I moved back home. Moving back home was also hard, thinking that I hate to receive help, even from my parents. Since the day I moved out, I’ve never asked them for help about anything. They’ve offered me a lot, but I’ve always said no thanks no matter what. I don’t know why, but somehow I feel very uncomfortable about receiving help, it feels like you’re saying that you’ve given up. Moving back home was one of the things I feared the most, for me it would mean that I’d given up everything. Given up my life. Given up being independent. But I was really down…  I reminded myself about it. My friends told me that it was OK to be weak sometimes, it’s OK to not be strong all the time. It’s OK to let people that cares about you to help you.

It was about then I realized that I really have a huge trust issue. Why do I feel uncomfortable with receiving help from my nearest friends and even my parents? How come I’m very helpful and insist on helping friends and family, when I personally hate to receive it?

A lot of things happened with me when I realized that. I guess how people see me is why I can’t accept any help. You know, people kind of look down on people that seems to being able to handle things on their own. People that have succeeded in any way will meet a lot of jealous and negative people. I’ve too many times dealt with people that thinks that I’m a kind of person that easily ask for help. And while I’ve dealt with problems alone – people still look down on you, thinking that you didn’t do it on your own. Instead of seeing it all in a positive way, like that I’ve been able to do things myself without any help, people will still think negative and think that I’ve received enormous help. It’s a circle I’ve been trying to break – I’ve pushed my limits only trying to prove people that I work hard – that I’m not a person that asks for help. But still – I’m only a human being just like everyone else. I had been working hard for such a long time trying to prove something for someone that wouldn’t believe it anyway. I was wasting my time on something I can’t change. I was burned out.

I slowly started to feel better after moving home. A new boyfriend was also a huge motivation. One thing lead to another, and…

On this day, I was in IKEA with Marcus. I was extremely happy.

I have a new apartment. I’m moving back to Oslo, and I will continue with my studies.

Marcus is here helping me with buying for the new apartment. It’s been almost one year since I called school and told them I couldn’t continue – today I feel completely different. I feel more motivated, ready to face barriers and challenges. I look forward to move back and continue where I stopped.

Gotta loooooooooooove it!

I’m very exited, I hope 2012 will be a good year for me – a lot of things is on my mind. Speaking of moving and good things; I hope I can live together with Marcus 0ne day, that would complete everything.
